Finally our new dinner is ready. It's now can be downloaded from our website at http://coconutthai.com.au

This time round, we add in a new section called "chef special" which is on the 2nd page of the menu. We will slowly introduce our new dishes on this blog.

In our new menu, we still left a huge range variety of vegetarian dishes untouch. All vegetarian menu will still be there, and we proud to let anyone know that we have the huge range of vegetarian dishes, compare to other restaurants in Wollongong area.

In our new menu, there is a picture of chilli to indicate how spicy that dish is.

To make our life easier (waitperson), we are get rid of the number on the menu. There is no dish number on the menu, so customer won't be able to tell us what number they want to order anymore. From now on, they have to say out the word (which is not too hard to pronounce). Check out our menu on our website and you shall find that it's not that hard to pronounce the dishes name at all... :)

Dai-san last dinner at Coconut Thai before heading back Japan

Last night Dai-san came in with Yuki-san and Take-san for his last dinner at Coconut Thai before heading back to Japan. Dai-san's English course at Wollongong Uni College is over, time for him to head back to Japan and attend his Uni study this week.

Dai-san is good friend and fan of Coconut Thai. It was great to have him as a customer and friend.
Farewell Dai-san, and we shall see you in Japan, one day...one day... :)

There was a family from Denmark last night

Last night, there was a lovely family from Denmark came in for Valentine's dinner. They are traveling around the world for 3 months, and happen to stop over in Wollongong for 2 days. It was great to see some customers or families who have such a lovely time dinning out at our restaurant.

The family was very fortunate to have a such a loving family. Both mum and dad are very friendly and nice, two of their daughters were so adorable and lively. Four of them were very chatty, although they have some difficulty with English, they put in lots of effort to had a conversation, which was very nice of them... :)

Just hope that we all at Coconut Thai can go on a "world travel" just like them. It will be so wonderful.... :)

It has been a quiet week indeed

This week trade seems to be long and draggy.... things are going slow and quiet.

Restaurant was quiet like never before. It has been like this for a week now. We have been talking to other Thai restaurant owners as well. Seems that everyone are in the same situation. Guess that people just don't have much money to eat out anymore...

At Coconut Thai, it doesn't matter how quiet it is, we will keep serving the same high quality dishes and one of the best and attentive you can find in Wollongong.

Our new "lunch menu" is now available to be downloaded at http://coconutthai.com.au

This time round, we add more salads and healthy dishes into our lunch menu.
Oh, we do now have "lemongrass chicken" as well. Please give it a go... :)

In our new lunch menu, there will be a chilli indicator to indicate which dishes are spicy. But, no worries, if you want to have it mild, just let our friendly staff know that you prefer your dish to be mild. We will cook your dish, just as the way you like it.

If you are a big fan of Vietnamese Pho, just want to let you know that Thai also have a similar noodle soup dish as well. It may not be the same as Vietnamese Pho, but hey... this may be something that you have been looking for, for so long.... :) It might be your "new love".

Please come and give it a go, we will make your lunch the memorable one.

It has been a long journey, 7 years is a long time for us. Thanks everyone for your support. We will still here, serving Wollongong with our finest and dedicate Thai cuisine and services.

Hi all,

Coconut Thai is now changing our menu. We will add the new section into our menu. It will be called "Chef Special". This section will be on the 2nd page of our new menu (not print yet). It will be filled with new dishes, with fantastic taste.

We will print our new menu real soon. We really recommend our customer to give it a go. It will be a worth while experience.

Yes, we are OPEN today; on Christmas day. Anyone happen to drive up or drive down for a quick holiday in Wollongong, you know where you can find something to eat... :)

It's at Coconut Thai Restaurant in Wollongong; 187 Keira St, Wollongong, just next to the Crown St Shopping Mall.

We are OPEN from 11:30am until 10pm tonight, no break between. And we don't take any booking. It will be on "first come, first serve" basis.

"UOW JAPA Class 2009" were here

Last night we have a group for "UOW JAPA Class 2009" students at our restaurant. It was a pre-graduation dinner for a few of them plus Martin's surprise birthday party. Yesterday wasn't his birthday, it was the day before. But they just happen to be able to meet up.

UOW JAPA Class is the class of students who are majoring in Japanese language.

In this table, there are 2 persons who will be graduating tomorrow; Michael and Champ.

Xmas was in town....last night

Christmas spirit was in Wollongong last night. There are heaps of people coming out in Christmas costume. They were just headed to the local pubs to have fun. Everywhere you looked on the street are full of people came out in a very nice and interesting costume. Well... guess that people just dress up in anything to have fun last night. Some are nice, some are interesting and creative... :)

Most of tables at our restaurant last night are packed with customer with Christmas costume as well. They were here to get food before heading to the pubs. It was very interesting scene indeed. Too bad, we didn't have time to take any photos. We were too busy serving food and looked after them, anyway... no time for photos.

It was a good experience... indeed

Papaya Salad...

We used to think that only Thai people will eat Papaya Salad. It's really proof us wrong. Although Papaya Salad is one of the well-know Thai dishes among Thai people. We used to have Papaya Salad only on the weekend menu. Since a few months ago, we started to have Papaya Salad on our menu, everyday, lunch and dinner. It's increasingly become quite popular among non-Thai customers as well.

Last night, there are quite a few non-Thai who ordered Papaya Salad. In fact, they actually purposely come to Coconut Thai so that they can have Papaya Salad.

So, have your tried our Papaya Salad yet??
Come on in and give it a go.... it might become your new favorite dish.... :)

Coconut Thai will be OPEN everyday this X'mas and New Year.
You know where to go once most of the restaurants and shops will be closed.

From Wed 23rd Dec 2009 to Sun 3rd Jan 2010, we will open straight from 11:30am until 10pm. We won't close between 3-4:30pm as we normally do. So, during this time, you guys can just come in anytime. As 23 Dec 2009 - 3 Jan 2010 will be one of the busy period for us. We won't take in any booking during that period. It will be serve come first serve.

Got one customer told us today that he couldn't find us on YellowPages.

Well, we are no longer on YellowPages since 2005 (I think). As we think that the online marketting is much better than YellowPages, which print only once a year and lots more expensive.

We are more into "online" marketing; via our own website at http://coconutthai.com.au, our blog, our facebook...etc..etc...

It's cheaper and we are more in control of our own ads.

If you type "coconut thai" on Google, you are sure to find us... :)

It's always nice to see customer from far away, choose to come to our Coconut Thai Restaurant, rather than going somewhere else.

Last night, there was a nice & lovely couple from Canberra came in for nice and quiet lovely meal. It was their first time at our restaurant and they enjoy our food that they promise to be back again next time when they are in town.

Interestingly, they want to move from Canberra to Wollongong for their retirement. Guess that it will be a "sea change" for them. They said that they have a year 11 student daughter and hope that she comes to study at Wollongong Uni, so that they can visit her more.... hmmm... it's wonderful idea indeed. We need more population here in Wollongong.. :)

The night before; Friday night 30 Oct. We had one customer who did his medicine traineeship with Wollongong hospital here a year ago. He used to come to Coconut Thai and get takeaway of Pad Thai Chicken all the times. At least 3 times a week.

Suddenly we didn't see him for a while and though that he might back to Uni in Sydney.

Ah... no, he actually did his traineeship in Nowra and the night before he came back with a huge group of friends. It was good to see our customer who moved away from Wollongong and still come back to our restaurant everytime s/he is in town. Moreoever, s/he bring a big group of friends as well.

So, on Fri night we did a nice chat with this customer after didn't see each other for a long time. He is not just our customer, he is more or less, our "circle of friends" as he came in for his "Pad Thai Noodle" so many times

It's good to see customers still remembering us, even when they move away from town.

busy lunch, cruising dinner

Yesterday, we had a busy lunch, but cruising dinner. Dinner was easy, not many people come out, due to the rain.. I guess.

Last night a few people ordered "Papaya Salad (Som Tum)" with "Sticky Rice". It's nice to see how "Papaya Salad" is now becoming more popular during the weekday as well. A few months ago, we used to serve "Papaya Salad" only during weekend lunch, due to it is hard to prepare and get the ingredient ready. It's good thing that now customer do not have to wait for weekend to order "Papaya Salad" anymore. They now can order this dish everyday... :)

Tonight, there are quite a few things happened that we would love to share with everyone here.

1. Most of the table tonight are our regular customers. They are all familiar faces... so nice to see them all here and some of them have been here 5-6 years. More or less, we are part of the family now...LOL.

2. Another interesting thing happen tonight. There was a couple who ordered fishcake, Pad Thai Noodle with Chicken and Chilli Basil Noodle with Lamb. The lady at the table commented that this is one of the best Pad Thai Noodle she had in a long time. She said it was really fresh. She said that everywhere she goes, she usually order Pad Thai Noodle. And this is the freshest Pad Thai Noodle she ever had. It was nice compliment that we would like to put into a record here in our blog.

We know that we are a bit slow in put things up on our blog lately (lots of excuses...sorry!!!). From now on, will put more stuff on your blog and promise to write here more... :)

You don't have to wait until Saturday lunch or Sunday lunch to have your "Papaya Salad" anymore. We are now serving this dish everyday; both lunch and dinner. Please come in to try it out.

Coconut Thai Restaurant, Wollongong is the first Thai restaurant in Wollongong who offer "Papaya Salad" in the menu. We are not a copy-cat... :)

Our "Papaya Salad" is real authentic Thai. The taste that you have it here with us will be exactly the same taste with the one who have back there in Thailand (if you are coming from Thailand or visited Thailand before). Ask your friend who had it before you... :)

He loves our Laksa Noodle Soup

Last Friday night, there was one customer came into our restaurant. He came with a purpose and strong determination.... :)

He told us that his friends recommended him that we have the best Laksa Noodle Soup in town. So, he came here to taste it out. He ordered Chicken Laksa Noodle Soup without even looking at our menu. And he asked for an extra chilli.

After he finished his meal, he gave us a big complimentary and vowed to be back and of course, to spread out the word about our best Laksa Soup in town as well... :)

Oh, well.... we just love this type of customer. Every now and then, a good complimentary from customer just keep us going on this journey....

Jessica & Timothy are one of our royal customer at Coconut Thai. They are a big fan of our biggest and widest range varieties of our vegetarian dishes. They LOVE our "Vegetarian Laksa Noodle Soup" and "Vegetarian Panang Curry". They both usually order these 2 dishes whenever they dine in (not always these 2 dishes BUT most of the time). If you haven't try our vegetairan dishes yet, give it a go next time.

Jessica has moved to a quiet town and we very are happy to see her in Wollongong and of course... to see her at Coconut Thai.

This time round, we have a Special Trading Hours from 24 Dec - 1 Jan which is we will be open from 11:30am to 10pm, non-stop; there is no break between 3pm-4:30pm. So, you can drop by Coconut Thai Restaurant anytime during those days.

25 Dec, 26 Dec and 31 Dec are the busiest trading for us so far (based on the previous years). Booking or reservation are not allowed for those 3 days; it's First Come First Serve.... Whoever come first will get the table first... :)

This Thu, Berdanette and her family were here for a nice quick dinner before rushed off to Unanderra to pick up her lovely & sporty son. Berdanette is well-respected chef in Wollongong. She also teaches at Wollongong TAFE. She had produced heaps of good chefs and staff for hospitality industry in Wollongong and region. Hospitality in this region is indeed indebted to her… :)

yeah...yeah... finally we got Samantha and Phillips on our blog....

well... there are reasons to be happy as sometime we really would love to take a photo of our customer BUT we forgot our camera...etc..etc... :)

Sam & Phillips are one of our lovely regular customer at Coconut Thai Restaurant, Wollongong. All of our waitpersons at Coconut Thai LOVEEEEEEEEEEEE to serve them because they are such a friendly and polite customer... look at the their smile!!!

Our staff sort of know what dishes they gonna order. There are a few dishes that they both love the most:

- Green Curry Vegetarian (Spicy)
- Chilli Basil Noodle Vegetarian (Spicy)

Yang is a big fan of "Som Tum" or 'Papaya Salad"; John remembered since studied in university long time ago that everytime he eat out with Yang and other friends, Yang will always asked from Som Tum. Nam and her brother; Gong are one of our regular customer at Coconut Thai Restaurant, especially weekend lunch. Nam and Gong usually are the first customer to arrive at our door each weekend... they come in very early... :)

Both brother and sister are friendly and lovable, their usual order is "Papaya Salad" and "Bamboo shoot Salad", unlike others... they love the dishes to be mild.

Gong is a fan of "Fried Rice" and "Crying Tiger" which he ordered almost every weekend... :)

Today, Dao together her family and friends have come and visited Coconut Thai Restaurant during our lunch hour. As usual, their ordered were almost the same everytime they are here:

Santi Forest Monastery

Today, staff from Coconut Thai Restaurant, Wollongong took a day off to cook for monks and nuns at Santi Forest Monastery, Bundanoon NSW. I was fun and enjoyable event as we went there as a big group; 21 people.

We headed off from Wollongong at 8am and reached Bundanoon at 9:30am and then everyone helping each other to cook and prepare lunch for monks and nuns at the monastery.

After lunch, we went bush walking, cliff walking and went to see the cave as well. It was fun experience for all of us.

Hui and Tong's last meal in Wollongong

Hui and Tong's last meal in Wollongong. They are leaving Wollongong and Australia for good and we are delighted that they choose Coconut Thai Restaurant Wollongong as the restaurant for their last dinner in town.

Both Hui and Tong are going back Thailand after studied and worked hard in Wollongong. Hui is one of our fine and talented staff and both of them are one of our regular and their favorite dishes are "Special Pork Rib" and "Chilli Basil Squid". It almost predictable that everytime whenever they are coming in for dinner, these 2 dishes will be on their menu.

Not just the main meal that they love, Tong is a big fan of our specially made "Deep Fried Ice-Cream". This dessert is the most favorite one for both of them.... and I strongly recommend to everyone to try this out. Our "Deep Fried Ice-Cream" is not the same as others, we invented our own way of preparing this every unique "Deep Fried Ice-Cream" and we are proud of it and would like everyone to try this out. It can be addicted..... :)

It's Brendon's birthday

Tonight is Brendon's birthday. A bunch of good friends are gathered at Coconut Thai Restaurant to celebrate this fun occasion. 5 of them have enjoyed their meal and you can see from their face that they are having a good time here. Lots of photos taking and lots of laughter.

The highlight of the evening is that the "surprised" ice-cream birthday came out from nowhere and the birthday song CD has been played and bring lots of surprises to Brendon's face.

It was one of the delighted night at Coconut Thai Restaurant.... we would say!!!

Terumi sensei

Ah…. people might confuse with the “sensei” word that I put on the topic. “Sensei” is a Japanese word which means teacher or lecturer: 先生. Well… Terumi is a lecturer in University of Wollongong and she teach Japanese and other stuff as well (hmmmm…. too personal to write here…. I think). That why she is being called Terumi sensei by her student… :)

Terumi sensei and her partner are now one of our Monday night regular. They usually come on Monday night which is quiet and relax environment (well… when you compare to those busy night on Fri or Sat night). Their favourite dish is “Green Curry Fish Fillet”. However, they are more adventurous now. They do order some other dishes besides “Green Curry Fish Fillet” after been ordering the same dish for the past few weeks. Guess that our “Green Curry” is suite their tastebud.

Terumi sensei and her partner are had a great sense of music and their feedback and comment to our choice of music that we have been playing at Coconut Thai Restaurant is the valuable one. It is always good when people LOVE our music that we are playing, isn’t it? Oh… of course, not just the music, food and services too…of course.

It has been great when we see our customer like Terumi sensei and her partner enjoy their evening at our small little cosy Coconut Thai Restaurant and we are thankful for their continuous support.

Stew Pork Leg with Rice

Stew Pork Leg with Rice is a Thai dish that most of Australian or non-Thai have not heard or tried before. It is not an average Thai dish that most of people will know. However, this dish is one of the authentic and most popular among Thai. This dish can be found in most of the corner in Thailand and we bet you that the taste is just the same as ours.

Stew Pork Leg is come with a big bone and pork skin which usually turn most of non-Thai off as is unusual for them. However, it has no threat to our Thai diner at all. We would say that this dish is however suitable for Thai dinner rather than non-Thai. However, if you are a bit adventurous, we are suggest at least try this one out.

We are proud to say Coconut Thai Restaurant is the only restaurant that having this dish in Illawarra region.

Na's farewell party 15th Aug

After lots of food and heaps of fun stuffs on last Monday night (11th Aug) at Coconut Thai Restaurant Wollongong, we had once more time party last Friday night (15th Aug); 2 parties in 1 week....oh...yeah....

This time round, it's exclusively to internal staff and this time round we had heap of fun.... and lots of singing going on. It's the last time that Na will be parting with us, we all has spent this quality time together as "one big family". It's was unforgetable....indeed.

Last night we had staff party at Coconut Thai Restaurant as 2 of our young lovely team members have graduated from university and it really a time for celebration and have fun.

We had so much fun last night, heaps of food and fun games; karaoke and card game. We’ve got so much food, both spicy and non-spicy. We’ve got so much traditional Thai dishes that we can’t find in Wollongong. We purposely cooked for this event and it was a bomb!!!! Everyone loves every single dish we had last night. It considered to be one of the most enjoyable night ever.

Card game and karaoke are the highlight of the night after everyone had eaten. It was fun for us to get together both for present staff and former staff. Obviously, we know how to party… :)

Glorious Wednesday Night

Last Wednesday night (30th July) we had such a good feedback from customers from various tables. There was one table of 11 people came in for a birthday party (Joel’s birthday). They had ordered “spring roll” as one of their entrée. Once we served the spring roll to the table, the first thing that we hear from one of a customer on that table was that he said that that was the best spring roll he ever tasted.

Another table was a lady who came in for a quiet dinner by herself. She ordered “Panang Curry”. At the end of the night when she made her payment at the counter. She had commented that that was the best “Panang Curry” she ever had.

There are at least two tables had commented on our choice of music for that night. And one of the tables was from a lecturer from University of Wollongong.

Over all that Wednesday night, we considered as a “Glorious Wednesday Night”. Too bad that we did not have any photos taken of that night event...

Chicken Wing

Well….most of people may think that chicken wings is just a “chicken wings”. Hmmmm… what can we say?? Partially correct and partially not.

Customer here can be assured that our chicken wings has been marinated in a very tasty seasoning and herb. And not sweet like some other restaurants do. One important fact that we would like our customer to know is that our chicken wings here is marinated over night, not a short cut like some do. And that will allow sauce and seasoning to be well mixed inside our chicken wings. Every single bite that our customer had, we want it to the most enjoyable and the tasty one.

Please also note that the picture that we display here, we took that photo by ourself; a non-professional photographer….hehehehehheeeh…. What you see is what you get, unlike most of restaurants that they engage a professional photographer to take a photo shoot of their food, it may look good in the photo, but not on your table…. Here at Coconut Thai, we honor our customer in such a way that most things here are DIY…we are sincere, not a “fako”!!! oops!!! “What you see is what you get”

Emillie WUPA

Of course, our blog won’t be complete without our lovely “Emillie” from WUPA. Yeap, Emillie and Sophie are one of our most lovable customer we ever have. Emillie has always bring heaps of her friends from WUPA to dine out at Coconut Thai Restaurant. That has been going on like this for number of years now. We really thankful for her support (and of course, her friends from WUPA too…. for always choosing Coconut Thai as their dinner and gather place).

Sad to know that Emillie is leaving Wollongong for Canberra. But we are sure that she will be back in Wollongong and give Coconut Thai a visit. Canberra and Wollongong are not far apart, anyway!!!

Yeah…yeah… Sophie is back in the Gong now. A few days upon her arrival, she was head straight to Coconut Thai, that how we love her and her group of friends from WUPA (Wollongong University Postgraduate Association) so much.

Last Friday; 18th July, Sophie was here at Coconut Thai with a group of her friends from WUPA. Sophie and her WUPA friends have been coming to Coconut Thai for a long long time. We all at Coconut Thai always love her and her group of friends. Last year when was in Asia, mainly Singapore and Indonesia (I think) to gather some information for her PhD thesis.

We still remembered the night that she came in for “dinner party” before she left for her research. And now she is back, she never changes… still lovely and adorable as always. And hey… she still LOVE our Coconut Thai the same….

Mayumi Ushio

Yesterday was Mayumi graduation ceremony at University of Wollongong. Mayumi has been part of the wonderful lovely and energetic team at Coconut Thai. She was one of dedicated team member that we had. We are sincerely grateful for the success she has made in her study. The time she spent with us at Coconut Thai Restaurant was the wonderful and memorable one. All team member “love and adore” her and of course, our customer at Coconut Thai as well.

Mayumi is going back to her home country; Japan tomorrow. We wished her a safe journey and back to visit us here again one day.

Crying Tiger

There are many people wonder why there is a dish has a name as such. Crying Tiger is not a tiger meat as lots of may people think. It’s a beef fillet grilled, serving with spicy dipping sauce. Again the name does not come from the spicy sauce that will make people cry or some sort like that. We knew that the sauce is spicy, but…hey… it won’t make you cry. No worries.

Here is a story how the name of the “Crying Tiger” come from. Crying Tiger dish in Thailand uses a beef fillet that have a bit of fat. When beef fillet (with fat) are being grilled, the oil will dripping out and that look like a tear. That how the name of “Crying Tiger” has been originate from. We don’t know who is the fist person that come up with the name, must be long time ago. One thing that we know is that that person must have a grate imagination, to come up with such a name!!!

Crying Tiger is serving with spicy dipping sauce. When we say spicy, we meant business; it’s real spicy!!! Our Crying Tiger at Coconut Thai, Wollongong has been kept original; SPICE while some Thai restaurants may make it a little bit sweet. We are not. We go for the real thing.

Our dipping sauce is prepared with soy sauce, chilli powder, lemon juice, kaffir lime leave and the secret recipe is the “grinded roasted rice” (guess that it’s not secret anymore) and a few more seasoning. And that make our dipping sauce so special.

Spring Roll

Guess that most of people have tried “Thai Spring Roll” many times and from many different places. Seems that every Thai restaurants have their own recipe and there is no fix recipe for this “Thai Spring Roll”. One thing we can assure you is that our “Thai Spring Roll” is different from those “Chinese Spring Roll” that you usually find inside some of Chinese restaurants here in Wollongong. We have tried most of the spring roll from Chinese restaurants below, and it is nothing compare to ours.

Thai Spring Roll at Coconut Thai Restaurant, Wollongong have 2 options for customer to choose from. One is normal spring roll (chicken spring roll) while the other one is “vegetarian spring roll”, so the vegetarian fan out there won’t missed out.

Our dipping sauce is delicious; a bit of sweetness, spiciness and sourness. Perfect combination, as we develop and invent this dipping sauce by ourselves. So, you won’t find this anywhere else!!! And we are proud of this dipping sauce….

Spring Roll is rather ordinary, you can find this in Thai restaurant or Asian restaurant, almost every where. However, there is one thing that we would like to share is that our spring roll at Coconut Thai is one of the most famous entrée that we have in our menu. We sell heaps of them every day. It must be good…. again, we would like to invite you to try this out yourself… :)

Satay Tofu

Satay Tofu or some spell as “Sate Tofu”, we don’t know which spelling is correct or wrong. Guess that we will just stick with “Satay Tofu” spelling.

Satay Tofu is one of our popular vegetarian options. Satay Tofu is a deep fried bean curd, serve with peanut sauce (satay sauce). Our satay sauce at Coconut Thai Wollongong is one of richest sauce available in town. We prepare our own sauce and unlike most of Thai or Asian restaurant that using the “peanut butter” to smoothen the taste and use it a “cheap ingredient”. We are not using “peanut butter” in our satay sauce. We use real peanut, grinded and mixed with our very best seasoning. Our satay sauce is rich, thick and authentic. Most of the ingredient are fresh ingredient; it’s doesn’t come from the jar or can.

We would like to invite anyone to come in and try our very best satay sauce.

Emily, Vijaya, Ritesh and Nighat

Last night there was a group of 4 lovely customer came in for dinner at Coconut Thai Restaurant; Emily, Vijaya, Ritesh and Nighat. We have met Emily and Vijaya before; either at Gossip Thai or Coconut Thai. It’s fantastic to see customers come back and bring in their friends as well.

Emily, Vijaya, Ritesh and Nighat seems to had a good time last night. They all lovely and energetic customers. Emily ordered “Exotic King Prawn with vermicelli” which is one of our “Coconut Thai Special”. Not many Thai restaurants in Wollongong are doing this dish as it hard and take long time to prepare and cook. However, at Coconut Thai we love to go through the process of this dish so that customer can enjoy their meal. It was one of our best dishes in the menu.

Besides “Exotic King Prawn with vermicelli” Emily’s friends has ordered “Tom Yum Fried Rice” and “Fried Rice with Nam Prik Pao”. Both dishes are tasty. “Tom Yum Fried Rice” is a bit spicy and sour, that is suitable for someone who wants something strong and a bit of a punch. While the “Fried Rice with Nam Prik Pao” is milder compare to “Tom Yum Fried Rice”, but both of them are rich in flavour. We encourage everyone to try these 2 fried rice we have as these 2 dishes are available only at Coconut Thai Restaurant, you won’t be able to find fried rice with so rich in flavour like this in Wollongong areas…..we can assure you that.

The other dish that they had is “Pad Pak Chicken”, “Pad Pak” in Thai means stir fry vegies. This dish is conventional dish suitable for someone who wants to have something on the safe side. Not spicy but yet very tasty…. you can see from their face….don’t you??

Seems that Emily and her friends are having great time at Coconut Thai Restaurant and we extremely wish to see them back here again… and of course with heaps of friends and people they bring in….:)

Award of Excellence

At the time of this blog, the result of the Award of Excellence for this year has not been announced yet. The announcement will be on 21st this month. Anyway, we don’t think we will go for the dinner night. It’s way too far for poor little guys like us can afford. We are happy just with the dinner $10-$12 per head.

From the photo, there are awards that we get in 2005 and 2006 from Restaurant and Catering Association. Well, we’ve missed out in 2007 last year and we are glad that this year we are back on track. We are 1 of the 6 finalist and the winner will be 1 of these 6... :)

Whatever the result is, we are happy to come this far. It’s not easy to be in the top 6 from all Thai restaurants in SouthCoast region (NSW).

Apart from this award from the Restaurant and Catering Association, we have some other a few awards in our hand as well……not bad for small restaurant and new restaurant like us. We have been working hard for this.

Coconut Thai is not pricy!!!!

Interesting finding..... last night when I was working (at Coconut Thai Restaurant... of course), there were 3 young lovely and energetic international student having their dinner and it's seems that they were celebrating something. They drank lots of red wine and took heaps of photos and they all seem to be very happy and be on top of the world.

At the end of the night when one of the girl came up to pay the bill, I had a small talk and chit-chat like I always did to the customer. She told me that this was her first time here at Coconut Thai Restaurant. And I asked her why is that so, isn't she live here locally? The answer that I got from her is amused me and I was speechless. She told me that I walked pass Coconut Thai many times but due to her budget constraint (student), she afraid to come in because the restaurant is look expensive for her!!!

However, last night she decided to come in and give herself a treat because she is graduating from UOW and her graduation ceremony is next week.

Here is the message that we as a Coconut Thai's team would like to send across to everyone out there is that "Coconut Thai is not a pricy restaurant" at all. We are one of the most affordable Thai in town. Our price is reasonable, although we are not the cheapest.

There are some cheap Thai out there, but really... the stuff that you get in return not even worth your money. The fresh ingredient, the authentic taste and one of the best services that you get at Coconut Thai is really worth money spending. We really hope everyone to see from different perspective... :)

Poh Tak Seafood

Poh Tak Seafood is one of the most famous dishes in Thailand. Strong in taste; spicy and sour. Poh Tak Seafood at Coconut Thai is come with heaps of seasoning and herbs; tomato, galangal, lemon grass, coriander root, kaffir lime leave and onion.

Poh Tak Seafood at Coconut Thai is well known for its authentic taste. Our taste has been kept original as its in Thailand. We have not change or modify its taste a bit. We know that most of Thai restaurant here have modified their food to suite the local tastebud; mild and sweet. We are not….. we believe in providing a genuine and original. Local Business Award

This year we entered into a Local Business Award 2008 (restaurant category). Surprisingly we are one of the finalist. Although we are not a winner, being finalist is this award has made us proud. As we are the only Thai restaurant who are in this award.

This week we have a photographer from Illawarra Mercury came down to do the photo session with us at Coconut Thai. Seems that everytime when there is a photo shoot about at our restaurant, they always shoot a food photo and every restaurant seems to do the same... show off their food...etc...

This time round we decided to do something different. We decided to focus on our personel, our staff which we believe that our staff at Coconut Thai Restaurant are the most attentive one... :) (we believe so)
